Google Home Back Horn Speaker

Google Home Back Horn Speaker

thingiverse

The design of this Thing based on the silhouette of guppyk's great Back Horn Speaker V2.0. I have increased the width and added provisions to accomodate the upper half of a Google Home Mini. I've also reduced the stabilizing side walls to a bare minimum to increase printing efficiency. The screw domes for the small usb port pcb are not 100% alligned yet, but i was able to use them anyhow. The model is optimized for a 8,38cm(3,3") Speaker that should have an impedance of 4 Ohm to work best with the Google Home Mini. I have chosen the 8 Ohm Visaton vs-frs8 m, because i plan to print another speaker and use them in parallel. I have attached an Step file of the Body to make it easier for you to modify the geometry for alternative speakers. Everything prints fine without supports if postioned on the correct side (behold the fixing tabs for the Home Mini and the USB pcb.) For the sides I've used some rest pieces of a thin floor laminate that to fit our living room. The attached Body.stp file was used to create the toolpath for my CNC Router. Of course you can also use the file to print the sides. You will have to sacrifice one Home Mini and need to solder the original speaker wire connector to your new speaker cable. For instructions how to open a Home Mini, follow this link https://de.ifixit.com/Teardown/Google+Home+Mini+Teardown/102264#:~:text=Use%20the%20metal%20spudger%20and,disc%20glued%20to%20the%20device. You can use all the original screws to fix the Mini to the speaker body. BEST FIX ALL SCREWS AND CONNECTORS BEFORE ATTACHING THE SIDE PANELS!! I have attached the side panels with glue, specifically UHU Allplast, which works for wood as well as for plastic. After the sides are attached, you will not be easily able to remove anything again, so make sure everything works before that last step. Happy printing !
