GoPro Helmet Mount v2.0

GoPro Helmet Mount v2.0

#About# This is a full-face helmet mount for a GoPro that uses elastic bands. This one, version 2.0, requires no strapping and has a much better contoured fit than my previous. #Printing# I printed the mount upside down with the top edges on the bed, with supports and a raft. I printed the clip with the clip sitting flat on the bed, with supports and a raft, but it hasn't printed very well this way so you may want to experiment. #Assembly# The mount is contoured to fit the face of my Akai helmet, other shapes may benefit from some foam or rubber feet on the back depending on the shape of the helmet. For the mount I use 4 elastic bands, two on each side. Only one is required on each side, but I use two for redundancy should one fail. You could also use hair elastics which might be more durable. Hook two elastics into the notches under the top of each side of the mount, run them over the top and down the back of your helmet jaw piece then feed one set of two through the other set in order to cross over and hook onto the opposite side of the mount in one of the notches on the bottom. The two holes are for threading one or two electrical ties (wire, string, cord, etc) as a fallback in case any elastics fail, in case something bashes the camera or attempts to pull it off improperly, or should the mount itself crack or fail in any number of ways -- the electrical tie should save your camera from the truck behind you. The clip portion has a hole in the mount arm, again for a fallback electrical tie. You can thread a small electrical tie over and perpendicular to the bolt and through this hole in the arm, and another through this tie and into the second hole on the mount. This should save the camera in a variety of failure situations. If the clip doesn't sit tight enough in the mount you can just place a thin piece of cardboard behind it as you insert the clip to snug it up. #Notes# I've been using this mount for about a month and it's great, haven't experienced any issues. I would expect the elastics will harden over time, probably a good idea to replace them every season.
