GoPro Hero 3 Steady Cam Concept

GoPro Hero 3 Steady Cam Concept

A hand held or base mounted steady cam for the GoPro Hero 3. This is unusual because it is servo/motor free and there is no counter balance underslung weight either. The vibrations and pitch/roll are dampened out by the use of an overhead pot, filled with a suitable easily sourced medium (see instructions). Originally designed for mounting onto my DJI 450 Quadcopter, however with the addition of the clip in handle (removable), it becomes a hand held steady cam too. I designed and printed this as a proof of concept. I wanted to push further the idea of a print in place assembly for the main body component, and to inspire. EDIT 15/05/2014 : Uploaded STEP file of the assembly, in case anyone wants to make any edits. http://www.gyrobot.co.ukhttp://www.facebook.com/gyrobotuk Instructions Add an M5 x 40 screw and nut. Everything except the "Waggle Stick Clamp" can be printed without support. However the handle may benefit from support due to the fillets for grip comfort. GoPro_Gimbal_Mount_Base.stl has two bits of support modelled for the holes at the base of the pot which can easily be removed with a craft knife. Seems a bit "notchy" at first but it does bed in and become smoother over time. I'm sure a bearing version would be super smooth. A little olive oil helps too. Fill the pot to suitable height with suitable medium, bit of trial and error for this one, eg : Polystyrene beads Necklace beads Plastic ball bearings Pasta balls Memory foam PRINT BOM : 1 x GoPro_Gimbal_Mount_Base.stl 1 x GoPro_Waggle_Stick_Clamp.stl (100% infill) 1 x Seal.stl 2 x GoPro_Hero_3_Bump_Guard.stl (100% infill) 2 x Bush.stl PRINT BOM FOR HANDLE : 1 x Handle.stl 2 x Pin.stl
