GoPro Mount for Bike

The point of this project is to provide a mounting point on a road bike/mountain bike without taking up more room on the handle bars. Admittedly, this is somewhat unnecessary as there is room on the bike for more parts. However, there are some big downsides to mounting on the handle bars:

Whatever is mounted on the bike is no longer centered on the bike. This means either the video is off to one side, or the light is off to one side

The Light and Motion lights have amber/yellow side lights. When mounted on the bars with other devices (Cameras, bells, head units, hands, etc.) they are blocked and don't provide the intended function.

There is less room on the bars for hands to hold the bars.

Things on the bars tend to get knocked when moving hand positions, and in the case of the light, this can be quite off putting while riding in the dark.

To that end, this mount connects to the bike and holds either the light or the GoPro just above the tire and provides a stable mounting platform for the light.

Suggested Print Settings

PETG. I've used PLA to great function on my bike in the past, but the all weather resistance of PETG over PLA would help this last much longer.

0.15mm layer height. While there is nothing challenging about the print, the tie channels in the print would do better with a bit more resolution. Besides, its so small and it makes it look so much nicer.

Required Materials

Other than the print, you'll need the following materials:

x1 M5 x 0.8 nut. I got mine for pennies at the big box hardware store. You'll want ones that are about 8mm across. Slightly larger and you can use heat to heat set them in the part. You may need just a dot of glue to hold them in place otherwise.

x1 20mm M5 bolt. GoPros come with extras, or you can buy some for cheap from the hardware store. I personally prefer the hardware store variants without the thumb screws.

x2 zip tie or Velcro cable tie. I'd highly suggest a ziptie, as they can be more easily tightened to the bike.

(Optional) x1 thin rubber piece, 17mm x 36mm. You can use an old innertube here if you want. This gets glued to the top of the mount to provide a bit more friction between the bike and the mount. (You can also purchase sheets of rubber from vendors like Amazon)

My Setup/Suggested Gear

I use the following setup:

Lights: https://lightandmotion.com/collections/all-bike-lights/products/vis-pro-1000-trail-gravel -or- https://lightandmotion.com/products/urban-350

Head unit and GoPro Mount: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H89P2CJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 -or- https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/114881

Head unit: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/621232/pn/010-02061-00

GoPro: https://gopro.com/en/us/shop/cameras/hero9-black/CHDHX-901-master.html

Light and Motion Adapter: https://lightandmotion.com/collections/bike-accessories/products/gopro-mount-urban-vya

There are headlights out there that already have the GoPro mounting system.
