GorillaPod Link

Joby ( http://joby.com/gorillapod ) makes fantastic, versatile tripods that can stand on rough surfaces and wrap around sturdy objects. The design is modular, consisting of many short links with ball joint attachments. Because of this, it seems like a perfectly amenable for 3D printing. With the ability to print the GorillaPod links, makers can use this technology for anything requiring a flexible mount. Instructions There is a Camera Mount with hole and head-lock for a 1/4 inch bolt which secures the camera. The Camera Mount has three ball heads which the GorillaPod links snap onto. I don't have a 3D printer, so I haven't been able to physically experiment with this design. I'm not sure how well the joints will come together and how much friction there will be when they are together. One idea to maintain friction in the joints is to use the rubberized tool handle coating when assembling the links. If anyone prints out these designs, I would love to hear how it went.
