GrabCAD's Orbit City

GrabCAD's Orbit City

The project has been completed!(More About The Project below)Welcome to the Orbit City Recruitment!--I’m making a video game using CAD and I could use your help creating ORBIT CITY. The project uploaded here is to recruit you to the GrabCAD Workbench project where we can collaboratively build our project. The “short term” final result will be a playable video game that you can play on your PC. The “long term” project will feature multiplayer with a meet and greet gameplay, and possible VR, console, and device support. All of the 3D will be generated using our groups CAD data, and it’ll be an interactive game experience that we can all own.______________________________________What is Orbit City?--The name Orbit City is borrowed from the classic TV cartoon called the Jetsons (originally aired September 23, 1962, to March 17, 1963). For the most part it featured Googie styled architecture set in a science fiction environment filled with futuristic gadgets and ingenious technology, some of which are real-life technologies today. The Orbit City we create will need to look futuristic, but it should also be a place where we can invent ideas in 3D using the Unreal Engine and awesome CAD design.______________________________How do I join?--First of all, please give me a like here on this project page to show your support. Then send me a private message and give me your email so I can invite you to the Workbench project, and let me know what “role” you want to have in the project. You can choose to be either a “Collaborator” or a “Viewer”. Collaborators are committed to designing amazing CAD, and they’ll work to improve other entries so we can make the best city possible. Viewers are important too, and they can show their support for the CAD designers and their projects, and even toss in a few good ideas of their own.____________________________________________________________When does the project start?--The Workbench project is going to go live in the PDT afternoon on Monday 17th 2019, and I’ll be inviting members throughout the duration of the project.__________________________________________________________When does the project end?--It’ll end when we’ve filled the city and we’re all happy with the 3D models and designs. In the next following weeks and months, I’ll have the game programmed and ready for deployment on PC, at which point, I can provide a link to download the alpha release of the game!________________________________________________________________What kind of 3D can you build?Well, almost anything. All of the residential 60 floors can be designed out, and there are currently nine of those buildings. Then there are ten “Skypad” designs, but several more can be added to the scene. You can also design vehicles, and I’ll work with you to add it’s functionality to the game.__________________________________________________________________Do you need to know the Unreal Engine to add the design?-Nope. All I need is a STEP or FBX file along with a style guide or 3D renderings to follow. Once I have your CAD in the Unreal Engine, I’ll be able to animate and render what it looks like in the city. Also remember, we are applying cartoon styled appearances, so include this thought in your style guide. But have no worries, I’ll also work with you on Workbench to make your design look right for the video game.__________________________________________________________________________________________Why the heck is Tommy Mueller doing this?Well, it’s a not for profit project... so I guess I’m doing it for fun, and doing it for the CAD community. Maybe it’ll lead to some new downstream ideas and projects, but mostly I’m in it to make something cool and creative.Hope to see you there!
