Classical Greek sculpture was almost exclusively dedicated to religion and cult. That is why the sculptures that are discovered from this era represent gods or godesses. They were used for praying, making offerings or sacrifices. Such busts and statues were to be found in places of cult but also in the houses of wealthy families who could afford them, and they were believed to bring the protection of the god or goddess they represented.
