Grind Range Adjust - BODUM BISTRO burr grinder

cults3d

After trying about 100 revisions of various models intended to adjust the grind range on the Bodum Bistro burr grinder to suit espresso (by shortening the upper burr holder), I resigned myself to the fact that FDM printing could never produce a strong enough part within the tight available space. Naturally, I tore the entire grinder apart and found that it was relatively simple to remove the lower burr shaft and free the impeller wheel that acts as a bearing for the lower burr as well as pushing grinds out the chute. I have replicated that part, but replaced eight thin straight impeller fins with six thicker, directional fins. Additionally, the part is about 2mm taller than the original, so it will produce a range between fine and very fine grinds. If you want a more versatile range, try scaling the part down a few percent in the Z direction. Not for the faint of heart to take the thing apart, but this appears to be a much more reliable means that won't result in the frustrating process of pulling bits of plastic out of your grinder when you want a coffee.
