The lock ring consists of three parts, an inner, an outer and a wire clip that is used to hold them together. The centre hole is not concentric with the outer so the assembled clamp can be slipped in place and then the outer ring rotated with respect to the inner will reduce the size of the internal opening, clamping it to the bar. The endcap uses the same parts with the addition of the bar plug. The inner and outer rings require minimal setups, all of the milling operations can be done with a single setup with the work piece mounted in a axial orientation. Although it adds an additional part the retaining clip is required to hold the inner and outer rings together, without this there would be a gap between the two pieces. The revised model has two holes in each part so they can be locked with a simple tool, for this application it is very unlikely that the tool would be required though. I stayed away from any sort or knurling or grooves on the periphery as they almost always tend to rub on your thumb while riding. Edit: the logo is from here SexyBycycle Logo
