This is an enclosure I made for my Grizzly G0704 Mill CNC conversion.

The tray is made from 1/2" plywood, painted with glossy marine enamel, to make it waterproof. The front is enclosed with heavy shower curtain material, hanging from zip-tie rings. The side stringers that keep the pan centered on the mill base are made from common 2x2 lumber, with appropriate angles cut or sanded into them.

The large side panels are made from Coroplast--the same material used for real estate and political yard signs. It comes in 4x8' sheets and can be cut with a utility knife.

The frame is made from aluminum extrusion. The vertical corners are 3/4" aluminum angle on the outside and another piece of 1/2" aluminum angle on the inside. The Coroplast is sandwiched between them and attached by punching zip ties through, around both angles. The top rails are 1/2" aluminum channel, with the open sides down, mitered and riveted to the verticals.

Tips:

Assemble the plywood tray using brad nails and waterproof wood glue

Attach the front tray bottom with screws so it can be removed to make it easier to take the tray on and off the mill.

Use zip ties to hang the shower curtain. Metal shower rings will rattle and buzz.

A 3D-printed plastic jig is provided for drilling holes in the corners of the tray to mount the vertical aluminum angles.

The bottom tray is based loosely on photos of a tray made by David Kemp, a.k.a. Hoss.
Category: Machine Tools
