Gusev crater on Mars

Gusev crater on Mars

thingiverse

As part of my ongoing project with NASA/RISG on data actualization for the blind, visually challenged and just anyone wanting to get a hands on feel for extraterrestrial structures, here is a print of Gusev crater on Mars. The actual crater is about 167 km in diameter and was the landing site for the now-stationary mars rover Spirit. Instructions The mesh (not created by me, passed on by a student)was based on HiRise digital elevation terrain data. I brought the initial mesh into Rhino3d v.4 oriented it, traced the border, extruded the border, capped and clipped it. It prints very well and the detail is not bad. This version was printed in GITD ABS (the NASA office stole the red version). Straight forward print from the stl.
