I use cords to secure my luggage to the motorcycle. This cord is exposed to UV rays and wind and rain 365 days a year, so two cords are used so that even if one cord breaks, the luggage will not fall. I made my own because I didn't sell a tensioner that can adjust two at the same time. For camping use, I think that one cord is enough. However, it may be better to use two cords and this tensioner for something with a certain amount of weight (such as hanging laundry).
