Showcase your Cube Gear and a unique and mesmerizing way! With 3 Degrees of Freedom, this gyroscopic gimbal mount allows the cube to rotate in every direction simultaneously. I think the cube gear is already a high "Wow factor" print, and now with the added gimbal mount, it catches the eye of everyone who walks past! Certainly a nice piece of interactive desktop art. Enjoy!!! Instructions OK, so this is one of the coolest things I've created so far. It took me THREE complete re-designs of this to get the strength I wanted, while maintaining a pleasing aesthetic and low friction interface connections. Print out each part.. (I used 0.25 infill, and NO Support is required) "Gyro Base.STL" "Ring 1.STL" "Ring 2.STL" Print a Cube Gear (if you don't already have one)http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:10483 Sand the ring to ring interface connections very well to ensure the rings will be able to spin freely. You are going to be using 4 small pieces of 1.73 mm filament to secure the rings to each other and the base. The inner side (closed holes) of each connection is the loose side, and the outer side (straight through) is snug fitting. When inserting the filament press against the inside ring just enough to ensure it doesn't bind in the socket. Once you have ensured each axis spins smoothly, trim off the excess filament flush to the surface. (Refer to attached Images for clarity) To insert or remove the cube, lightly squeeze the the larger ring. This will cause the rings to slightly flex, making it much easier to get the cube in or out. The cube is held corner to corner and provides the third spin axis. I had a lot of fun designing this one, and have spent countless hours playing with it on my desk since I printed it. Every time I need a tiny distraction I give it a spin. I am a big fan of "Motion for the sake of motion" and this provides that interactivity for sure!
