(H)air cutter / Corona hair cut adaptor for vacuum cleaner

(H)aircutter is a very simplistic design to add scissors to a vacuum cleaner. Why? To get you a hair cut in corona times. For free! Without any risk of looking like a shaved sheep.

Even so the lock down has ended for many countries and you could get a new hair cut, it practically is not that easy. In my case I would have needed to wait another 4 weeks to get an appointment, as all the new rules take time, the number of customers is quite limited and prices are gone up, too. Also there is no risk of getting infected, when doing the hair cut at home.

This also may be a good and fun idea for families with kids to save a butt load of money. Getting hair sucked into a vacuum cleaner is always fun, isn´t it? :)

This at first seems to be a stupid and not useful Idea, but in fact it works very well.

Features:

Configurable cut length. Cuts hair perfectly to the desired length. Every time!

Failsave! You cannot do it wrong. Not a single hair will be cut below your desired length setting.

Time efficient. Get a proper hair cut in around two minutes.

No cleanup required. No aftermath of hair on your floor, shoulders and furniture.

Very small. Fits in any drawer or compartment.

Cheap. Multiple hair cuts for just 60 Cents.

Family friendly. Print once and cut many. Kid love this way of getting a hair cut.

No stressful waiting at your hair dresser. Especially with kids.

Easy to print.

No assembly required. Just plug in the hair length adaptor and go.

Ergonomically usage due to an angled mount of the vacuum hose.

The scissors blades are fully covered for safety reasons.

Hair funnel provides a wide opening for quick and efficient cutting.

Different length of nozzles can be attached to the main device to configure the desired hair length.

Cheap and economic friendly due to small and easy to print hair size adaptors.

Fully enclosed design for better air flow and more energy efficiency, as the lowest setting of your vacuum cleaner provides enough suction power. Even battery powered hand held cleaners should work.

FreeCAD file included. Can be adapted to any pair of scissors and any vacuum cleaner within minutes. #### How to use:

You turn on the vacuum cleaner with the adaptor attached, insert the scissors and you are ready to go.

Just make sure you have the right length of the adaptor matching the desired hair length attached to the device. Also don´t max out the power settings on your vacuum. A very low setting is far enough. We just want to suck in some hair and not entire kids.

Now place the adaptor onto the/your head, holding it with both hands on the pipe and the scissors and snip.

The hair gets sucked towards the scissors which are always at the right height. Yeah, basically works like your lawnmower just without the danger of a spinning blade..

This tool works best if you put it onto the head with the scissors fully opened and then give it two or three fast snips. If the scissors are not fully sharp or the amount or thickness of your hair are making the cut hard, just abort and retry. You cannot do anything wrong. The hairs you missed will be cut in the next attempt and the hairs you successfully cut are already out of the way. It will get easier from snip to snip.

If you are unsure about the desired hair length just pick a longer module at first and go from there. It just takes two minutes to cut all hair. If you find it is still to long, just redo with the next smaller adaptor module until you are satisfied with the result.

You can do it on your own, but it works best when you have someone to do the fun job. Especially the back side of your head can be hard to reach and if you want a different length on the lower back it is not easy to find a line. If you just want the same length everywhere, you can´t do anything wrong. Its just a little workout to get the adaptor all around your head.

It is really that easy. You really cannot do anything wrong. If you use the 20 mm adaptor all hair will be cut to exactly that specific length. All the time. Not even the best hair stylist can do that.

Yes, you could use a hair trimmer for 60 bucks to achieve the same result, but then there would be hair everywhere and you spend 60 bucks instead of a few cents for printing this little tool and the required add-ons.

This little hair cutting device not only performing a perfectly sized hair cut, it also gets rid of all the mess that comes with hair cutting You won´t find a single loose hair on the floor, on your shoulders or still sitting loose on your head. No need for a cape, no need for a broom to remove the aftermath. Just put the vacuum cleaner back into storage and you are done.

And yeah, I am aware of a commercial home shopping solution doing exactly what (H)airCutter is doing. But paying 170 Euro for that? Why? We have a 3D printer and the result is the same. The commercial product may be a little easier to use, but is that worth the money? You also can buy the commercial version later on, if you like the idea, so see this is a free trial version the industry is not providing.

You just need to print the base model and the adaptor rings required for your desired hair cut. The base without any attachment cuts your hair to 12,5 mm.

The adaptors may be hard to plug on at first, as I choose the tolerances quite small to get a robust connection. Make sure you remove any elephant foot and they will slide on with little force. Make sure you print the main unit and the adaptor ring in the same orientation. This avoid problems mounting the rings when your printer is not 100% calibrated. Having the rings and the connector printed flat on the build plate avoids that.

#### Requirements:

Scissors. I used the second biggest one of a four pack I got from LIDL some time ago. Named: CRELANDO® Scherenset, 4-teilig. The length of the blades from axle to tip is 10cm.

A 3D printer (who would have expected that.)

A vacuum cleaner with a circular nozzle. Preferable a tube and not a hand held device. I used my trusty old AEG Vampyr 5045

Hair grown to an unwanted length #### Adapting the files using FreeCAD:

I used a beta version of FreeCAD to design this. If you want to modify this object using the FreeCAD file, you should use this version or you might break the file. You can ignore this warning once V0.20 is out.

https://github.com/realthunder/FreeCAD\_assembly3/releases/tag/0.11

I already included some different sized adaptor versions, so you may only need to modify it to fit your vacuum cleaner nozzle. Maybe even a little tape or a piece of bicycle tube is enough to make the connection.

If you need help, then I can do the changes with your measurements for you.

Print Settings

Printer:

TronXY X5

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

0.2

Infill:

15%

Filament: Noyes PLA Grey
Notes:

I strongly suggest to print the connector side down in the same orientation a the adaptor rings. That way you have a good footprint. You probably could print the model standing on the big flat side, but I recommend to print it flat. This also prevents trouble when your printer is not calibrated properly. A misaligned x axis will just cause a smaller/bigger length of the connector on both parts and not widen the main unit in X while the rings are wider on Y.

The required support can be removed quite easy by poking a long screw driver along the sides of the scissors mount hole and the connector opening. Just push it all in and crack the support loose toward the middle. Do the same on the other side. Now most of the support should be loose an can be removed with some pliers. In the end stick the scissors in and open them. If you hear support crackling just repeat poking. Just avoid to fancy infill. I used "ZickZack", which is very easy to remove from long holes.

Give the funnel connectors and the funnels adaptors a good clean with some sand paper to remove the elephant foot. That way they will fit onto the main apparatus without any issues.

As always make sure your printer is calibrated.
Category: Bathroom
