"I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that" Kubrick's groundbreaking movie, 2001 A Space Odyessy, is one I've never been able to make my mind up about. The book is, of course, better (although the books get less and less good as you go through the series, mainly because Clarke just cuts and pastes huge passages from other books). However, the movie is great at telling the story of the Monolith, both the one found on the moon and the giant one orbiting Iapetus (or around Io in the movie). Then it gets to the last ten minutes and I'm left thinking "what the hell did I just watch...?" Anyway, the undoubted star of the movie is the Discovery's main computer, HAL 9000. The calm voice (provided by Canadian DJ Douglas Rain), the inhuman murder of the crew and the poingent singing of 'Daisy, Daisy' as Bowman destroys him; yes, HAL is undoubtedly the star. So now you can park your coffee on his face! This coaster, of course, is based on the camera which is used as HAL's most famous depiction. You can use it for a coaster or you can pit it on your PC tower and tell everyone it's trying to kill you... If you want one of these but don't want to print it yourself you're very welcome to order one from my Etsy store - www.etsy.com/uk/shop/enterprisexddesign
