This was a model I did for a halo-inspired game, adapted for 3D printing. I would recommend using supports if you can (I am using Simplify3D for my supports, definitely would recommend!). The easiest way to print the part is in two sections. I wouldn't recommend printing any other way. How I Designed This 3DS Max Modeled in high-poly to be adapted for a game, the assault rifle was then brought to a low-polygon version for use in the game engine and was exported to a .stl format to be 3D printed.
