Hand Drive (Geared Up Version)
thingiverse
We took on the challenge to improve a wheelchair by hacking into its design. Our research showed that lever-powered wheelchairs offered a superior physical motion for users, but they came with a hefty price tag - anywhere from $2,000 to $10,000. Rather than redesigning the entire wheelchair, we created a Hand Drive wheelchair attachment that makes lever-powered wheelchairs more accessible to everyday users. Our attachment is almost entirely 3D printable and completely open source, costing just $40 to make - less than 1% of its competitors' prices on the market. The Hand Drive wheelchair attachment can be easily attached to any wheelchair and allows it to be powered in a rowing motion. This motion is better for your back as it engages bigger muscle groups, and it keeps your hands cleaner. With our affordable price point and adaptable design, all wheelchair users now have access to a lever-powered wheelchair.
