hand microtome

thingiverse

This is a hand microtome for cutting sections of botanical samples. It was inspired by and evolved from the OPN microtome (https://pages.stolaf.edu/opn-lab/equipment/). Contrary to its predecessor, this microtome is not printed but built from parts cut by the lasercutter. The microtome is made from 3mm acrylate. For thicker or thinner material the design has to be changed. Acrylate is easily cut by laser and can be used to cut slices under water.
