Handle for Storage Box

Handle for Storage Box

I produced this print in response to a request to repair / replace a broken handle that is used in an air tight container. The air tight container features a spring-actuated device to seal in the food and keep it dry. In this case it was used to keep Cracker Biscuits dry. For comparison I have attached a photograph of the broken handle which is the clear/transparent handle. The clear handle has a missing "arm" on the right hand side that when fitted to the box lid, locates into a cleat on the top of the box. When the handle is in the upright (relaxed) position, the box lid can be removed. However, when the handle is turned to the down position the cleat is levered up which in turn squeezes and expands a rubber garter. This causes the garter to clamp against the inside perimeter walls of the bottom box section, thus sealing the air in - air tight. I printed this part in white ABS plastic to ensure the handle pins are sufficiently strong enough to both pull up the spring and squeeze the garter into place. Please note that the release spring is very strong. Although It is a rather specialised part, I hope this is of use to someone and allows the container to be repaired rather than go to land fill.
