Hartford Whalers Logo & Refrigerator Magnet

thingiverse

This is based on an SVG logo of the defunct (but will forever live on) Hartford Whalers of the National Hockey League (NHL). Even though the team is gone, their logo remains one of the most beloved in the NHL history, with its clean looks and clever use of negative space between the W and whale's tale to make an H. This the 1992 updated version of the logo, which is my favorite version. At first I designed it just as a 3D logo, but then realized it'd make a nifty fridge magnet if it was scaled down a bit and divots were added to the bottom to the hold the magnets. I sized it for 6.35mm x 1.53mm disc magnets I had lying around, you could easily add cut-outs for any sort of magnet with any of the CAD programs or services. From [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hartford_Whalers#Identity_and_logo_development_prior_to_joining_NHL): The original Hartford Whalers logo (1979–1992) was designed by Peter Good, a Connecticut-based graphic designer. It combines a green "W" with a blue whale's tail to create the letter "H" in the negative (white) space in the center of the logo between the two shapes. The "W" stands for Whalers and the "H" stands for Hartford. The logo was updated in 1992 with a darkening of the colors and the addition of a silver background. Subtle changes to the shape of the whale's tail and "W" were also made.
