Head of Discophoros by Polykleitos of Argos

Head of Discophoros by Polykleitos of Argos

myminifactory

Acquired before 1891Marble, Roman, after an original from ca. 460/450 BC Polykleitos created numerous bronze statues depicting gods and athletes. This head goes back to a type, which presumably portrayed an athlete holding a discus in his left hand. The shape of the head so typical of Polykleitos' work, most notably the finely chiselled curly hairstyle, corresponds with the head of the Spear-Bearer close to it.  This object is part of "Scan The World". Scan the World is a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory, through which we are creating a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from across the globe for the public to access for free.
