Skylark III of French aerospace company is an enlarged type of skylark II helicopter, and it is also one of the most successful helicopters of French aerospace company. Before the 1980s, it was the world's largest helicopter production, until it was later overtaken by the same company's "squirrel" series helicopters. The development of skylark III can be traced back to se3120 "Skylark" piston helicopter of southeast aircraft manufacturing company of France. The first flight of the aircraft was on July 31, 1951. The largest production of "Skylark" helicopter family is the "Skylark" III series. The "Skylark" III originally used the serial number of southeast aircraft manufacturing company, known as se3160. The prototype aircraft first flew on February 28, 1959, and began production in 1961. Before the end of 1969, the turbo shaft machine equipped with "ardustre" is called se-3160. Compared with "Skylark" II, "Skylark" III is larger in size and has seven seats. It uses Turbomeca's ardustre turboshaft engine. The early se3160 "Skylark" III helicopter was produced until 1969, and was later replaced by sa316b, which increased the maximum take-off weight. Both sa316b and se3160 used the same ardustre III turboshaft engine.
