Hercules

This bust is a modern mould of a montage of various other sculptures depicting Hercules. It is only recognizable by the skin of The Nemean Lion draped over his head, aside from that the figure has very adrogynous features. The Nemean Lion is characteristic with many depictions of Hercules (such as the Statue of a Bearded Hercules at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York) and was often used as a motif for a series of sculptures representing emperors to elevate their status from Political to Celestial, a practice common with Alexander the Great (whom had a 'Lion pelted' bust made) who had long been associated with mythic heroes.   Bearded Hercules at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (A.D. 68-98)   Alexander the Great as Hercules
