Herring bone pattern jig for pen turning

Herring bone pattern jig for pen turning

prusaprinters

I recently saw some neat turned pens with herring bone patterns. Rather than glue individual pieces of plastic as the separators that help the colors stand off, I figured I would just 3D print the pattern so it can also serve as an assembly jig. Typical ¾" blanks were cut to 3/8" pieces (~9.2 mm). I have not glued up or turned anything with this yet. You can probably get away with using PLA, but beware not sand at too high a speed. PETG might be a better choice.

Added OpenSCAD file for customization.
