Herringbone Geared Turntable Roller Bearing

Herringbone Geared Turntable Roller Bearing

This is hybrid between a tapered roller bearing, a herringbone gear set and a spiral bevel gear. it is ideal for use as a turntable roller bearing, taking mainly axial loads.

It is self retaining/aligning with the parts kept in place purely by the herringbone gear tooth profile. It has a simple design with no retaining ring or similar part needed to keep the rollers in place when loaded.

The ring has 28 teeth and although it can run with 3 rollers, 4 provide even spacing and better stability, with 7 rollers giving further improvements in stability and bearing capacity.

With 7 rollers, the bearing can take significant axial loads (tested in excess of 17kg).

I have printed in PLA at a 0.1mm layer height as this gives an excellent surface finish, minimizing friction. However my test parts with larger layer heights still run ok and other materials should be fine so long as warping to kept to a minimum.
