My Prusa i3 MK3S+ kit came with these Allen keys, so I made a holder to store, clip, and unclip from the printer for easy access!

For:

2x 1.5 mm (or 1x for the "5-Slot" style)

1x 2 mm

2x 2.5 mm (one long (L) ball end + one short)

1x 3 mm

Variations:

Left or Right

5-Slot or 6-Slot (6-slot holds 2x 1.5mm keys)

PLA or PETG

No Interference: It doesn't interfere with the print head! (Just put the long ball-head Allen key in the "2.5mm (L)" slot and slide the holder all the way right or left, depending on which print you choose).

Print Parameters: It works in PLA or PETG and probably whatever you want to print it in. PETG is easier to quickly snap on and off due to its relative lower stiffness. If you want the hex-size-labels to show up clearly, you have to make the outer perimeter extrusion width smaller; I set it to 0.3mm. Set a layer height of 0.15mm for more detail in the letters — 0.2mm layer height is also pretty good.

Why: I didn't want them hanging around in my spare parts ziplock, and I found that I used them near/on my printer quite frequently. I didn't bother looking up if it existed already (which, as it turns out, does kinda exist in a different design), so I made my own design. It's based on the clip design for the spool holder that comes with the printer, so it snaps onto the frame.

Updates: (psahk-v9 = Prusa Spare Allen Key Holder - revision 9) Version 9 now includes variant labeling.

If you like the design or have any suggestions, please like, leave a rating, and/or comment!

Print instructions

I prepared and tested .3mf files with proper seam painting for all variations. Just open your variant of choice with PrusaSlicer, confirm your printer and print material, then slice and print! I've prepared all the print settings for you.

If you would like to prepare your own print files, I have also included .stl's for download, and you can reference my recommended print parameters listed below.

Recommended Print Parameters:

Print it sideways so there is no overhang.

Layer height: 0.15mm

Filament: PLA or PETG (or other)

Supports: None

Infill: 20% Rectilinear

Perimeters: 2

Brim width (PLA): none (default skirt)

Brim width (PETG): 5mm (no skirt)

Extrusion Width - External perimeters: 0.3mm

Seam Painting: Feel free to block seams at the hole and size-label surfaces for a cleaner looking print. In the 3mf and gcode files, I already seam-painted for you!

Tip: You can use a marker or paint to make the labels pop out! I used a silver sharpie on the Galaxy Black PETG.

Share your print! Post a picture in the comments so other users can see how your prints turn out ;)
