This is a reverse engineered version of the "Hexibox" subwoofer enclosure for a Tang Band W3-1876S mini subwoofer by Hexibase that fits a smaller printbed. For this I altered the wall thickness from 8mm to 7mm and added another "loop" to the waveguide, while constraining the bounding box to 205x205mm. I kept the cross section of the waveguide identical, but had to slightly compromise on its lengths and the volume of the coupling chamber: waveguide length: - 1434mm Hexibox orig - 1368mm Hexibox mod 205x205 waveguide volume: - 5,02l Hexibox orig - 4,99l Hexibox mod 205x205 coupling chamber volume: - 1,74l Hexibox orig - 1,65l Hexibox mod 205x205 # files Symmetricaly sized parts, to be printed without a TPU gasket - Hexibox_Mod_205x205_HDRI_Top.stl - Hexibox_Mod_205x205_HDRI_Bottom.stl (PLA/0.2mm Layer height) Centerline shifted, to be printed with a TPU gasket: - Hexibox_Mod_205x205_HDRI_Top_Gasket.stl - Hexibox_Mod_205x205_HDRI_Bottom_Gasket_4p2mmTPU.stl (PLA/0.2mm Layer height and TPU/0.2mm Layer height) A printable Gasket for the Tang Band W3-1876S driver: - Hexibox_Mod_205x205_HDRI_Driver_Gasket.stl (TPU/0.1mm Layer height) # materials - 6x M4 [heat-set inserts](https://www.amazon.de/-/en/ruthex®-threaded-RX-M4x8-Press-fit-ultrasound/dp/B07YSV66Y5/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=m4+wärmeeinsätze&qid=1611219627&sr=8-3/) - 2x [audio binding posts](https://www.amazon.de/-/en/gp/product/B01FQXOYV6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1/) - 1x UHU Allplast (#48410) # print without gasket If you choose to print the Version without the TPU gasket go right ahead and print the symmetrically sized parts. # print with gasket For the Version with the TPU gasket I created the Hexibox_Mod_205x205_HDRI_Gasket_* files. To set the gasket in the very middle of the speakerbox, I raised the bottom by 2,2mm over the centerline and offset the top accordingly. In its compressed state, the gasket would then be 4mm in thickness, extending 2mm over the centerline in both directions. By glueing the two parts together under pressure, the tongue and groove meet while the gasket has made contact .2mm beforehand and therefore is compressed, forming an airtight gasket all along the waveguide and coupling chamber. The first Hexibox mod I made was a 4 parts conversion keeping the identical geometry of the original. The air leaks were massive and the enclosure therefore rendered unusable. The TPU gasket works exactly as intended. To print the gasket i changed the filament to TPU for the remaining 4.2mm of the printed z height for the Hexibox_Mod_205x205_HDRI_Gasket_Bottom_4p2mmTPU.stl. If you use octoprint to control the printer you can add the @pause command. In my case, with 0.2mm layer height, it looked like this: > ;LAYER:234 > @pause Make sure you have some action scripted in octoprint to follow up the @pause command with some retraction and a parking position. These are my settings in octoprint, please adjust as necessary: begin pause: > G91 ; sets relative position > G1 X200 Z10 F1000 ; move to a safe rest position > G1 E-5 F200; retract 5mm at 200mm/min > M104 S195 T0 ; start cooling T0 to 195 degrees Celsius > M18 E; disable stepper extruder for manual filament change > G90 ;goes back to absolute mode before resume: > G91 ; Relative movement > G1 E80 F300; Reposition filament (or purge if new filament has been pushed in by hand) > G90 ; Absolute position I appended a Loudspeaker measurement, done with a UMIK-1 and REW. One measurement is taken 2cm in distance to the center of the driver and the other measurement is placed 50cm away from it. I assume that the increase in the 55Hz region in the more distant measurement is due to the reflex wave adding in. This project is merely a prototype to evaluate if the Tang Band W3-1876S mini subwoofer, in accord to Hexibases design, would be worth while of an adaption for two stealthy enclosures that would fit inside the elongated original rear sidewalls of a Volkswagen Caddy 4K. And just by listening to it, i think it is. The constraints will be completely different, but i assume that a circular more flared port will help with some of the scuffing i noticed during testing. Thanks to Hexibase.
