High Wing Airplane (Modular) - Remix

thingiverse

This is a remix/modification of a very well done thing originally posted by "swtchrwr". Grandkids and I had a little fun with the original version. We added threaded pins or parts to the original so that it is more of a take apart model. Some of the parts to this plane are still original, some are modified. One thing to point out. Some of my modified .stl files don't look so great when viewing here in thingiverse (like the rudder or wheel struts). It kind of looks like there are holes in them? I think that is because of the way thingiverse renders the .stl files that have objects with more than one surface at the same place. Or it could just be the result of the limited tools that I have and my knowledge of working with .stl files. Even though they look a little messed up, they load and slice quite well in Cura. I'll probably work on learning how to clean them up in the future but for now, they are what they are. Notes: The screws, axels, and struts are made in two pieces to improve the strength of the finished product. I think the narrow pieces just look a little better this way and the screws are much stronger as opposed to printing them on end and having the weak layers come apart on when you tighten them. Use CA to glue the halves together. Since most of us have "not perfect" 3D printers be gentle with the screws when starting them in the holes for the first time to not cross thread them. Be patient and work the in and out in little increments to clean out the threads. The flats that put on the screws help with that but still, be gentle at first. The wrench will fit all of the hex head screws. You can store it in the cockpit notch right under the wing. To make a nice friction fit so that it don't fall out, you can either sand it a little it it's too tight or add a drop of glue to the face of the wrench, let it cure/dry and then sand it back down for that friction fit. I glued (CA) the wheel struts to the oil pan. I did not come up with a good way to use a threaded method. They are just too small for my 3D printer to make a good thread.
