Hive Game Box

Hive Game Box

thingiverse

A compact, drawer-style storage box for the board game Hive. It is meant to hold the complete game including all 3 current expansion pieces (the lady bug, mosquito, and pill bug). This was designed for the full-size tiles, not the Pocket version. I didn't like any of the Hive storage solutions already out there, so I made my own. I strongly recommend printing the outer storage box as I have oriented it, with the longest dimension in the Z-axis. You will want to add supports to the hole that the lid slides into, and may want to add a brim to increase bed adhesion. I tried printing it laying "flat" but there was enough cumulative distortion from all the overhangs that the inner drawer would just barely not fit. It may work if you have a very nice, well-tuned printer but my Prusa MK3S couldn't manage it. There's about 6 millimeters of extra space on the interior of the inner drawer so you can add some sort of material to cushion the tiles. I had some 1/4" brown weather stripping laying around so I cut two pieces to size. You can see the result in one of my photos above. It snugged up the fit quite nicely and avoided having to design this such that the tiles would need to be jammed tightly into the drawer to sit securely. The logo was attached with cyanoacrylate (Super Glue). I printed the backing plate in black like the box, then had my Prusa do a color change when it started printing the logo. Obviously you don't need to print this is if you don't want to, but I thought the end result with the orange logo came out looking really cool. The lid should slide in without too much force and stays put even when this is bouncing around in my backpack.
