Hologram Cube

The Hologram Cube is a lamp that can create diffused, ambient light in the closed position or something new - an illusion of 3D object floating in the air, a hologram - in the open position. While closed, the lamp hides its true nature but at the same time gives out diffused light. Opening the cube - rotating the upper part - reveals it.     The foundation for this project was currently popular DIY project of smartphone hologram projection (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqyK7CNZx2g) but, instead of using a smartphone I am using Kitronik White USB Lamp Kit and 3D printed parts. The 3D printed litophane plate (still image) replaces the smartphone animation. Printing the plate, that is later illuminated from underneath the cube, in several layers (litophane technology) we can get different precentages of transmitted light through the plastic. Therefore, we can get the depth of the picture - illusion of hologram on the pyramid. On the plate we have the 4 views of the object that are projected to the pyramid when the light hits it. The lamp can be used as a hologram or as an ambient lamp. This change is easy. You just rotate the upper part and let it fall. More information is in the PDF file (ZIP file with the STLS).
