This is a hack based on vase mode concept.

Vase mode takes your model and switches off the infill and the top surface. When your slicer slices it you end up with an empty container with a solid bottom and no top surface.

What i have done here is to take a box which I previously printed in vase mode

This time instead of selecting vase mode i had the following settings

Infill = Honeycomb
Infill percentage = 6%
Top layers = ZERO

When the slicer slices it gives you something similar to a vase but instead of it being empty it is filled with loads of honeycomb holes which hold pens perfectly

I have done this with a box there is no reason why it can't be done with other shapes such as circles etc.

So please go and experiment with simple shapes and using the honeycomb to give the effect you want

As to the colour change. I ran out of red about 75% of the way into the print and swapped over to silver
