Hook Analysis

Hook Analysis

grabcad

Analysis of a lifting hook done with SolidWorks. The results indicate that the maximum Force the hook can withstand before yielding is 60KN and it would displace approximately 2.5mm under that load. A safe working load would therefore be around 30KN. I used Alloy Steel as the material which yields around 620N/mm^2 I have edited the optimised the hook model for FEA and drawn the additional supporting components, however credit for the initial design and modelling of the hook must go to Nuraddin Zeynalov (Nuraddin Zeynalov). As this is Nuraddin's model I feel you should download his part if you want the visualisation version. The analysis files are quite large so I have not uploaded them, however, if you want to have a go at this static analysis project I am happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the setup :-) Some tips for beginners in FEA - suppress features that are not needed, with multiple parts you may need more fixtures/constraints than at the mounting point, and start off with course meshes unless you want to wait all night for a study to mesh and then have it fail!
