Hornby Ringfield Conversion Adapter

This adaptor is designed to make the process of converting an old Hornby ringfield motor easy, and most importantly reversible as no adhesive is required, meaning there is less likelihood of ruining the model during conversion and the motor can be fully replaced if necessary. The adaptor is a very tight fit, so should not require any adhesive to keep either it or the motor in place. If you find that the motor is a loose fit, I have added 2 small screw holes that can be used to secure it using the threaded screw holes on the motor. I would recommend using diodes to drop the voltage supplied to the motor from 12v to 10v, more detail on how to do this can be seen in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnY0nCt7sOU I have tested this on a Hornby HST, but it may not fit on other ringfield designs. The duct tape pictured is being used as electrical tape, not to hold the adaptor in place. Pros of the conversion: Faster Better low speed performance Less noisy Does not give off that burnt smell ringfields sometimes do Can be done entirely for free if you have a suitable DVD/CD drive you are willing to disassemble for the tray motor. The diodes can also be obtained from old electronics. Cons: There is always a chance of breaking something Requires soldering The motor, though still removable and replaceable, is not as serviceable as the original ringfield I would not recommend attempting this modification unless your original motor is not working properly, or is starting to slow significantly with age.
