Picatinny rail for a standard camera hot shoe.

This can be used to mount a reflex sight aka "red dot" on your camera for easier target (re-)acquisition if you use a long telephoto lens, particularly when it has a fixed focal length.

Two different sizes available - seven slots and three slots. Indicated print time and material consumption is for the seven slot version.

Please note: This part can not be secured to the hot shoe - there is no locking pin.

Print instructions

Settings

Requires auto-generating support structures. Apart from this, default settings and standard nozzle will do. Model was designed for 0.2mm layer height and 0.4mm nozzle. Using different nozzle diameters and layer heights = YMMV.

Material

Printing with Polycarbonate is recommended. I personally use PolyMax PC as it seems to be the strongest variant out there, costing not that much more money than Prusa's "PC Blend". To print this part, it was not necessary to use a glue stick on the smooth PEI sheet as the contact surface is so small. It easily came off without damage to the sheet after it cooled down.

This can of course also be printed with PETG or PLA, but of course this comes with a strong penalty regarding durability.
