Hot Wheels Car Wash & Garage Legs 2015

Mattel made a remix of their awesome folding Hot Wheels Car Wash, Service Station, Garage toy, but unfortunately sold it with the same Achilles heel, the flimsy legs. The old 1970s version would break, pop off, or break then pop off becoming useless. It was nothing a few phone books couldn’t easily remedy for play, but an unfortunate thing nonetheless. In 2015, they came out with a remix of their garage with a stronger set of legs, but still somewhat breakable and much harder to replace having to remove a dozen screws to replace them. My mother bought one of these for my son as a bit of nostalgia knowing how much I enjoyed it as a 70s kid. Well, both legs are broken in another fit of nostalgia. Searching the database, I found printable versions of the old style legs ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1295689 ), but none for the newer garage. So here is something to fill that gap, the 2015 legs. These print fine without supports simply laid on their backs. The bulge for the axle piece could benefit from supports, though they printed ok without. How well you’re tuned in or how finicky your current filament is might push you one way or another in your slicing. The axle hole was fine in my print, but if it’s too tight for the axle to fit off the printer, a quick reaming with a 7/64 drill bit will loosen things up for you. The first prototype needed that. I added little bumps for the locking function to lock closed or extended, but I sadly didn’t make them proud enough to engage. If I get some time, I’ll try extending those a bit and see if I can’t get that right. 3 kids & health challenges, it may be a few. I might take a guess and just upload a second beta version for someone to test for me. These work fine for now. Made in 3D Builder
