A 3D Zoetrope designed using the Fibonacci sequence and golden spiral. The mounting point is designed for a standard snap-locking DVD motor. It is designed with bottom slots to allow light into the chamber, which is a feature of our Hex Strobe Docks and Wooden Strobe Docks. It was then printed in Natural clear PLA to allow light to diffuse through the plastic from within. If designing a motorized strobe dock of your own, it can also be printed in a colored plastic and bathed under white or colored strobe lights from above. Strobe Docks can also be purchased on our website at https://www.novatropes.com The sculpture should be rotated at around 915 RPM, with a strobe frequency of ~40 Hz and a duty cycle between 0.5 and 2% (lower is better, but will decrease brightness). Brightness can be increased by over-volting your LEDs, which is only safe at very low duty cycles (over-volting will burn out LEDs if left on for more than a second so be careful). Note: Mounting snap-hole dimensions are very precise. Print with a .4mm nozzle (only PLA has been tested but other plastics may be possible). Printing with a raft is also imperative, as even slight bed leveling imperfections will result in the statue "wobbling" during operation and creating unpleasant visual noise. 3D printers with software-enabled bed-leveling *will* result in a wobbly sculpture, so printers with manual leveling knobs are best-suited for the task. Pro-tip for smoothing out the spin: We have noticed that a thin ridge can sometimes be printed around the bottom of the snaphole. Spin stability can be greatly improved by planing this down with a small hand planer, razor blade, or sharpened putty knife (our favorite method). The flatter the bottom plate is around the snaphole, the better it will spin. Just be sure to wear gloves so you don't get hurt!
