The i3ext extruder by sgraber has been modified for E3D v5 hot end and 1.75 mm filament, as the normal J-Head mount doesn't fit perfectly with E3D due to different mount geometry. It features involute gear profile for constant gear ratio during movement of the extruder gears, unlike straight cut gears. The Bill of Materials (BOM) includes a NEMA 17 motor, E3D v5 hot end, 2x 625ZZ bearings, 1x 608ZZ bearing, silicone hose or springs, about 50-60 mm long M5 rod, and about 20 mm long M8 rod along with M3 nuts and bolts. Additionally, an MK7 filament drive gear is required. Ensure to print the body, idler, and gears, preferably in ABS. Cut a main shaft from a 5 mm threaded rod or create one using a die from a smooth rod for better accuracy. Create a groove in the shaft for the MK7 set screw. Install two M3 nuts into the top cavities and attach the Nema 17 motor. Assemble and install the main shaft using two 625ZZ bearings, the MK7 drive gear, big gear, and some M5 nuts. Place the small gear onto the motor and insert the E3D hot end into its groove before fastening it with M3 nuts and bolts. To assemble the idler, use a short M8 rod and 608ZZ bearing. Install the idler, using silicone hose or stiff springs to add tension.
