Ice Scraper with conduit handle

Ice Scraper with conduit handle

thingiverse

I recently printed this great, compact ice scraper http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:625925 for my Polaris RZR (scaling the length a bit to fit in the glove box) and was inspired to create something that could be used for my large 3500HD pickup truck, so I designed this ice scraper that has a hole in the handle for a length of 3/4" metal conduit. Most stock ice scrapers are too flimsy and too short to clear all of the snow without approaching both sides of the vehicle, at least when you get +300" of snow a year. By using a long length of conduit and a conduit bender, I created a slight arc in the tubing that would allow me to clear most of the windshield from one side of the car. I superglued it together and used a hose clamp on the end of the printed handle to help prevent possible splitting of the scraper, due to the print orientation and possible leverage points. I chose 3/4" conduit for the handle because it's cheap, reasonably strong, and yet readily shaped if you have a bender. Yep, mine is really long, but then again, it's for a pickup truck with a full sized bed...you can of course cut your conduit handle to whatever length works for your needs. Printed in ABS at .3 layer height, 2 perim, 50% infill. It takes a fair amount of plastic...based on tolerances and how well your printer maintains integrity of horizontal holes you may need a little interior sanding.
