Machineable 2 set mould in aluminium to make a perfect 55mm ice sphere for drinks. Have 3 parts that can be 3d printed for the internal ejector mechanism. I decided on a 55mm sphere for now, but it would be easy to later do a deathstar ice mould or a '8-bit' minecraft like sphere or Scrat's nut from Ice Age. See how it works on this other homemade ice mould(not mine)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ey3t5dewDg Simulation of machining my part in cam software :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SN2oOIItN0khttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDgAqggMMok update I made new ejector parts, push-disc.stl was made with 5.1mm hole to easyer fit the bar, also made the disc thinner, push-elipse.stl also with 5.1mm hole and slightly thicker elipse as the previous was not easy to turn with the disc ontop. Made a new handle, vectorized the Ice Age logo and made a new handle, should look fun and cool. Pom-slider had a 6mm hole instead of 5mm, replaced with 5.1mm hole and added a 1.5mm chamfer on the inner hole. Instructions Making atleast 4 sets of these as christmas presents. If you have any comments/tips/design changes, please add in comments, I have no idea how this turns out, if the eject lever works or moulds are too big or small. You probably need a CNC Lathe with C axis to machine this(100mm dia alu), the top and bottom sphere of the mould would be turned on a lathe, the stearing rods needs to be indexed equal 180degrees bottom and top. I have based all the movable parts on 5mm rods and small plastic parts for ejecting the ice sphere can be 3D printed. Parts are : pom-slider.stl : OD10mm and ID5mm pom(delrin) slider to ease the friction on the 5mm rods length is 15mm. ice-sphere-bottom.stl : OD 98mm, length 100mm, half 55mm(27.5) sphere and 2 x 5mm holes(Pitch circle dia=75), on the side 5mm hole for the ejector rod and lever ice-sphere-top.stl : OD 98mm, length 100mm, the second half of the sphere, 2 x 10mm holes and 2 x 6mm holes(same 75mm PCD) the idea was to drill or mill a 10mm hole 15mm in and then bore a 6mm hole after 15mm, glue the pom-slider in and the 5mm rods thats sticking up from the bottom would get less friction from sliding on 15mm pom/delrin instead of sliding in a 5mm hole in the aluminium top, if less friction the quicker you get your ice sphere. push-elipse.stl : Print on 3D printer, this is a part of the internal ejector, glue a 5mm x 60mm rod in the center hole, might be difficult to assemble as this part needs to be in the bottom center hole before you glue. push-disc.stl : Print on 3D printer, this is a part of the internal ejector, glue a 5mm x 20mm rod in the center hole. The top end of the rod will(should) align with the bottom of the sphere, rotating the lever and the elipse shaped part should push the sphere up for easyer removal. handle.stl : Print on 3D printer, this is a part of the internal ejector, glue onto the 60mm long rod sticking out on the side. ice-sphere-mould.stl : Print on 3D printer, fill with distilled water and freeze, will result in a crystal clear ice cylinder, the rounded edge on the bottom will make it easyer for the cylinder to stay in place, sphere is 55mm wide, end of rounded edge on ice cylinder are 53mm.
