A shroud and mount for a 2.5mm and 3.5mm plug to suit Icom portable radios such as the IC-41 series and IC-A15/16 units. The shround will space the plugs correctly for the radio at the correct depth, and will fit any of the IC-41 series UHF radios or the Icom A15 and A16 (and maybe the A25). Note the connnection will NOT be waterproof. Additional parts required: 2.5mm stereo plug, (PP0103 Jaycar) 3.5mm stereo or mono plug, (PP0130 Jaycar) USB cable (4 core shielded), Epoxy glue, (Araldite r similar) M2x0.4mm pitch x12mm bolts and nuts. The plugs should have the ground support section cut off about 6mm up from the base. Some Epoxy glue should be put in the holes on the base section of the shroud and the two plugs inserted from the bottom with the ground support stubs facing inwards toward each other until both are level with the bottom of the moulding and straight. Let the epoxy set before continuing, then thread your cablethrough the hole in the top of the shroud and solder it as required. Suggestion: Use the following coloured wires on the USB cable for an air band plug. Note that green and white are usually a twisted pair, so we use these for the mike signal to reduce the likelihood of RF feedback into the mike signal line. Green -> Microphone Earth (2.5mm base) White -> Microphone + (2.5mm ring) Red -> PTT (2.5mm tip) Shield - > Speaker Earth (3.5mm base) Black -> Speaker + (3.5mm tip) The two parts of the shroud must be glued together using epoxy glue (Araldite or similar) and the shroud itself should be filled with glue to hold the cables in place. A few nicks in the insulation of the cable that's inside the shroud will help the epoxy grip on it. If you want to bolt the plug to the radio, use the M2x0.4mm x 12mm screws, but beware, these screws could break off under a shock load and be all but impossible to remove from the radio except by Icom. If you don't want to bother bolting the radio on, you can melt M2 nuts into the lower part of the plug and use the M2 bolts to fasten the two halves more securely. then cut and file off anything protruding as shown in the pictures.
