Ikea Adils Speaker Stand

Ikea Adils Speaker Stand

I was struggling to find a decent set of speaker stands for my bookshelf speakers. This Ikea hack allows you to combine a cheap but sturdy table leg and a chopping board to make a solid and stylish speaker stand. I also added some spikes to the base but this is optional. Print resolution is a personal choice here. Obviously if you want it to look nicer then take the time to print at a higher resolution. Infill needs to be pretty high as screws need to be used hold this in place. Simply cut the chopping board to the largest length possible, removing the area with the hole. Next, drill a hold in the centre of the chopping board (we'll call this the base from now on) for the speaker cable to pass through. Screw the cone to the centre of the base. (You will notice the underside of the cone has a channel/recess. I originally had the Adils legs screwed directly to the base before designing this cone and so included this channel to allow me to use the original base. You shouldn't need to use this channel but it may prove useful if you need to de-centre the cone on the base and have already drilled your cable hole.) Next, push the Adils leg into the printed cone around 1" deep. It's a nice tight fit so some twisting may be required. Finally drill a 1/2" long hole in the back of the leg around 1" from top (the circular part where your speaker with sit) to allow the cable to run down the inside of the leg. Now all you need to do is decide if you want to stain, varnish or paint your base match your speakers. I used some double-sided foam tape to sit the speakers on. This keeps them in place but doesn't damage them. It also helps reduce and vibration between the speaker and the base.
