My wife needed a locking mechanism for her IKEA cabinet. So that our visitors are not tempted to open it. If it is locked you still can open the drawer above. The locked drawer slides then with the upper drawer. You need some additional wood pieces for the sides as it still accessible through the gaps between the two drawers on the sides. The Drawer has thickness of 17mm. I could only find a lock with 18,8mm. So I had to do a bit of bending.
