Ikea "Lack" enclosure: clips for acrylic panels

thingiverse

This is a mounting/guide clip to attach acrylic panels to the popular "Lack" coffee table from Ikea. 10mm magnets allow two panels to be easily removable. I used a magnet in the recess in the circular cutout in the printed clip, which attracts a matching magnet glued to the acrylic panel. The panels are 3mm acrylic, you need 4 identical panels of 440mm x 395mm. I had the shop cut the panels for me, then in one panel I made a "keyhole" for the cables using a 16mm drill, then a fine-tooth hacksaw for the straight parts. The handles are simple plastic handles taken from an old cupboard. I printed a total of 8 of these clips. Each leg of the Lack table has two clips, one near the top, and one near the bottom. I only had 8 magnets so I only used them in the top clips. The bottom clips are merely guides, and gravity keeps the acrylic panels vertical. It should tolerate a range of print settings, I used 0.2mm layers, 1.2mm walls and 15% infill. You don't need support, a bit of sag in those magnet holes will just grip the magnet more tightly :-) The printer I used was actually a "Cocoon Create" from Aldi, but this isn't listed by Thingiverse, so a Wanhao i3 is listed. I believe both of these printers are just clones of a Prusa i3 design. This was one of the first things I made in Freecad, so feel free to sound off in the comments about how I could have done it better. The original .fcstd file is there so feel free to modify it for your needs.
