Illusion Vase

Illusion Vase

myminifactory

This vase was designed in SelfCAD for the MyMiniFactory SelfCAD Design Competition. This can be a great addition to liven up your home or workplace by simply printing out and adding flowers or other decorations! It was a bit tricky to photograph the textures on the vase because of how subtle the illusion texture is... but in person the texture came out quite nice.  Check out the video I took while modeling the vase using selfCAD by following the link: https://youtu.be/1-zulGYSgWU Steps involve using the "Image to 3D" command within SelfCAD to create the raised edges along the sides of the vase. I then copied and joined the pattern several times to create a rectangular form. Once a merged the sides together I created a base for the vase and merged the base to the rest of the body.I then used the "taper" command in the deform toolbar to create the narrower opening towards the top of the vase. After the taper command I used the "twist" command to create a simple yet elegant curvature to the piece.Once the design was complete I used the "magic fix" to make sure that everything was joined together and ready to export for 3D printing.
