This is a larger than life bronze sculpture started by neo-classical sculptor Jean Piere Cortot (1787 - 1843). The piece depicts Liberty, the personification of France and stands as a version of the statue of Libety. The piece was intended for the done of the Panthéon but was destroyed in 1848. The Louvre fortunately hold a bronze which was cast by Thiébault in 1859.
