Independence Tower

The monument choosen was that of the Impressive and magnificent Independence Tower Monument(an obelisk). Situated at the Hippodrome neighborhood as far as the capital Yaoundé is concerned. The Hippodrome is the largest square in Yaounde. It starts on the south side in front of the Ministry of Communication, and ends on the north side with the French high school Fustel de Coulanges. The site was rehabilitated by the Yaoundé Urban council (CUY) The obelisk is visible from meters away, but as in any sacred place rich in history, it is accessed by “facing” the sculptures of large seated lions. Rectangular in shape, Cameroon’s Independence Square has two artificial fountains on each side. Ladies with shiny faces embellish them. Not far from these fountains, seats have been provided for visitors. Parking is available too
