**See update below**. This was part of a combined effort to get a local third party's stalled build rolling. Based on steel tube (mostly scrap/drops), 608 bearings ($0.20ea. eBay, Amazon, etc.), NSK linear rails/trucks for Z and floating Z (scrap yard), XL belts and pulleys (McMaster), OpenBuilds smooth idlers ($0.19ea Bulk Man 3D) with 688 bearings (eBay), NEMA 23 steppers (~$20 eBay), NEMA 17 stepper with captive T8 lead and brass-like nut (~$25 Amazon), common 1/4 and 5/16in. fasteners, 12mm inductive sensors ($2 eBay), PPG power coating media, USB touch-screen (from an ATM), 28mm arcade-style operator buttons (eBay istockproducts), IMS step drivers (scrap yard), 48VDC linear power supply (scrap yard), and ARM/FPGA ethernet controller (custom).UPDATE: After construction and testing of Y axis assembly the local builder is (thankfully) moving to a design without the junk 608 bearings running on steel tubes. Modifications and improvements to this model that would have resulted from his real-world build won't happen. What you see is what you get.A 4th axis with NEMA 23 or 34 stepper will attach to the Y bearing trucks for cutting or notching round and square tubes. Tall Z accommodates removable 4th axis as well as tall objects or materials on bed.X_B export from CAD, others formats via. F360.Usability of the inexpensive 3D-printer-grade (ie: junk) NEMA 17 with captive rolled T8 lead and wobbly brass nut is proven on several builds that see near-daily use. An active torch height control will maintain correct cutting height (via. sampled voltage) regardless of constant or varying lead/nut/step inaccuracies.This won't be a stellar performer (à la Crossfire, et. al.) due to (not my choice) 608 bearings directly on steel tubes.
