Infectious Pathogens

Viruses are microscopic powerhouses, protected by a capsid or nucleocapsid outer layer that houses their genetic material. The beauty of these tiny structures lies in their icosahedral symmetry and self-assembly abilities. To bring this to life, models were created from x-ray crystal structure data using the Chimera program, converting .vdb files into .stl for 3D printing purposes. Models include Dengue virus, B19 Parvovirus, Human Papilloma Virus 16, Hepatitis B, Phi X 174, West Nile virus, and Adenovirus. Despite occasional errors during slicing, these models print well for educational and fun purposes. For further reading, check out the provided links or explore the VIPER database.
