Flip this thing inside out many many times and become mesmerized by the ever changing features of the cube. If you flip this thing completely inside out, it will actually not be a cube anymore but a spiky geometric shape! Instructions ve always wanted to build this and hopefully I can if I win this MakerBot. I initially got the idea with those little trade show toys you get that allows you to 'flip' the cube inside out. They morph and can eventually show a total of 12 sides (6 outside and 6 stored inside). They are called magic cubes because they suddenly can make a picture seem like it appears out of nowhere. So the twist is rather than put boring pictures on the 6 faces of the block, I am to store geometric shapes inside the hidden surfaces. You can think of it as 3 pyramids stuck together to form a sub cube part. Then 8 of those sub cube parts are put together to form the final product. Here you can see the inside of the cube where I have joined all the side appropriately. The actual file for one eighth the part is shown here:http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2650 *I started in the wrong quadrant so it only shows the back of the cube =( Anyway, after you print this out with the MakerBot, you must stick 8 of them together with lots of colorful paper. My idea is to cover the outsides (initial state) with 3 solid colors. The insides (hidden sides) will be covered by shiny reflective sticky paper, you know, the kind that glimmers and you can pick from red diamond, gold diamond, silver, etc? So even if the paper isn't sticky, you can glue it all together with spray adhesive. You should note though that the stickers holding it together may not last long unless you use some sort of vinyl paper to endure the thousands of flippings this thing will likely see.
