These aren't so common, but I made a shift version, so I thought I might as well. They're like these (https://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=6690, Jagwire Rocket II Inline Barrel Adjuster), but for brakes. You can add them anywhere; they're free floating. Not really sure why you would want to use these, maybe just to get some more adjustment. Most brakes these days already have barrel adjusters built in at the cable stops. The only necessary application for these really is as a substitute for these (https://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=59201&category=7, Shimano SM-CB90). These are found on bikes with a direct mount rear brake mounted under the chainstays, like the Felt AR series. The SM-CB90s come with a quick release feature too. Motivation for these being that no one wants to flip the bike over/reach down there to fine-adjust cable tension or do a quick release for flat/wheel changing. Obviously, mine doesn't have a quick release feature. I guess you could just dial out the barrel adjuster a lot by default, then screw it all the way in to mimic a slow release feature. How I Designed This Brake barrel adjuster: 7.98 mm ferrule seat depth, 6.41 mm ID, 8.69 OD (variable), 10.31 mm barrel length, 14.45 mm threaded length (with locknut on), 2.45 mm cable hole Assembly & Materials M6 nut (I think). 3.8 mm height, 5.29 ID (thread to thread), 9.90 mm between furthest outside edges. Different ones may not fit in the slot. brake barrel adjuster brake ferrule (see above section) This accepts brake barrel adjusters with a maximum threaded length of 17 mm. If yours are longer than this, they may just bottom out & you'll have "lost" some adjustment. It'll just stick out a little. Shouldn't really affect anything. These barrel adjusters are found directly on dual pivot calipers, etc. They are NOT the same barrel adjusters on those combined brake/shift trigger shifters (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/us/en/shimano-altus-m310-7-speed-trigger-shifter/rp-prod55296). These are much larger in outside threaded diameter, & often feature a cutout so the brake line can be quickly installed without removing the barrel adjuster itself. Instructions are pretty much identical.
